Mark Swenson

Mark “Marky Maypo” Swenson, 58, of Independence, MO passed away Monday, July 9, 2018 with his children by his side. A service will be held at 3pm on Friday, July 13, 2018 at Carson-Speaks Chapel 1501 W. Lexington Ave, Independence, MO, 64052. A visitation will follow the service from 4-7pm at the chapel.

Mark was born on May 2, 1960 in Kansas City, KS to Ira and Margaret (Cox) Swenson. He worked several different production jobs throughout his life. He liked to read, watch cartoons, play guitar, sing, go hunting and fishing with his buddies, and anything that was the color blue. Mark loved collecting things, especially knives, swords, Hot Wheels, and dragons. His heart was enormous. He was always involved with his kids and their school activities. Even the neighborhood kids considered him “pops”.

Mark will be remembered by his children Josh Swenson of Independence, MO; Jacob Swenson and Alissa Harris of Liberty, MO; Hanna Swenson of Independence, MO; girlfriend Shirley Highfill of Independence, MO; sister Margaret Crites of Independence, MO; brother Floyd Swenson of Independence, MO; grandchildren Dakota Swenson, Christian Patton, and Madison Swenson; best friends Chuck Hollaman and Jeff Bruntmeyer; plus other extended family members and many friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents and sister Priscilla.
