Forrest L. Swetnam, 87, of Independence, MO, died April 7, 2005. Visitation will be held 6-8 p.m. Tuesday, April 12, at Carson-Speaks Chapel, 1501 W. Lexington Ave. Independence, MO. Private graveside services and interment at Mt. Moriah Cemetery. Forrest was born March 11, 1918, in Lincoln, NE, and married Ruth Edwards in Kansas City, MO, in 1943. Forrest registered for the draft during WWII but a physical ailment classified him as 4F so he worked as an inspector at the Swift and Co. meatpacking plant, and rode the streetcar between Independence and the West Bottoms throughout the War. His career was with his uncle "Olie� at Swetnam Leather Products, and later the Kansas City Trunk Co., both in the historic Kansas City garment district. One of his most notable productions was a leather presentation case given as a gift to Harry S Truman; Forrest inquired about it a few years ago at the Truman Presidential Museum and Library and saw it is part of their permanent artifact collection. Forrest is survived by a son-in-law, Lloyd Campbell, Raytown, MO; three granddaughters, Marcia Campbell, Centennial CO, Cindy McNulty, Largo, FL, and Carol Butler and husband, Rich of Dayton, OH; eight great grandchildren, David Jackson and partner, Russ Howerton, Kansas City, MO, Nathan Jackson and fiance Jennifer Rooth, Largo, FL, Aaron Talbatt and wife, Sondra, Enon, OH, Emily Talbatt, Largo, FL, Deborah Talbatt, Dayton, OH, Justin McNulty, Largo, FL, Heidi Butler, Dayton, OH, and Shawn Jones, Largo, FL; and three great-great-grandchildren.
