Carlin Lon Talcott, age 88, died December 4, 2020 after a brief illness.
Mr. Talcott was born of goodly parents, Charles Cecil and Bernice Leone (Jackson) Talcott on Mother's Day, May 8, 1932 at Dunlap, Harrison County, Iowa.
After World War II began, the family gathered to Independence, Missouri. Mr. Talcott became active in Cub Scouts, Boy Scouts, and was an Eagle Scout. He was a "hardway" Warrior and Sachem in the Tribe of Mic-O-Say. He was a graduate of William Chrisman High School, Graceland College in Lamoni, Iowa and the University of Missouri at Kansas City.
Mr. Talcott was a veteran of the Korean War serving in the Army of the United States (AUS) north of the 38th parallel in the Iron Triangle. After returning from Korea, he began work as a Quality Control Inspector at the Westinghouse Electric Corporation, Aviation Gas Turbine Division in Kansas City, building jet engines for the U.S. Navy. Mr. Talcott met Florence Arlene Crozier while she was a student nurse at the Independence Sanitarium and Hospital School of Nursing. After her graduation, they married August 31, 1956. He then worked as an armed Guard and Driver for Brinks, Inc. in Kansas City. Later, he went to the Bendix Corporation in Kansas City as a Production Control Planner.
Mr. Talcott was an ordained Elder in the Reorganized Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. While he was at Bendix, the family was asked to accept General Church Appointment and they served in Missouri, Texas and Indiana before returning to Independence, where he resumed employment at Bendix as a Program Control Planner. Later, he was employed by the Social Security Administration, Mid-America Program Service Center in Kansas City as a Benefit Authorizer, Manager and Claims Examiner, from which he retired after 22 years of service. After his retirement, Mr. Talcott became a licensed Funeral Director. Though he never actively worked in the funeral profession, he had close associations with the staff of Speaks Funeral Home during those years.
Mr. Talcott and his wife, Arlene, were life benefactor members of the National Rifle Association, lifetime members of the Truman Library Institute and volunteered together at the Independence Regional Hospital. Mr. Talcott was also a life member of the Missouri Sport Shooting Association, Korean War Veterans Association Chapter 2, Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 15026, American Legion Post 1000, Disabled American Veterans Chapter 2, Pennsylvania National Guard Museum, Second Amendment Foundation and the Law Enforcement Alliance of America. Mr. Talcott was a member of the Sons of the American Revolution, Harry S. Truman Chapter, and served as Chaplain. He was a charter member of the National World War II Museum, an annual member of the Crossfire Recreational Center and Gun Owners of America. He was also a graduate of the Independence Police Department Citizen's Academy and the Jackson County Sheriff's Department Citizen's Academy.
Mr. Talcott was predeceased by his wife, Florence Arlene (Crozier) Talcott, his great-grand-daughter, Emma Elizabeth Gamble, and his parents, Charles Cecil and Bernice Leone (Jackson) Talcott.
His survivors include his son, Michael B. Talcott and wife, Erin, of Independence; his daughter, Carla M. Hurshman and husband, Al, of Creighton, Missouri; his brother, Marvin C. Talcott and wife, Arloe; his niece, Tamara A. Talcott Sutherland and husband, Marcus; his nephew, Todd A. Talcott and wife, Carla, all of Independence, Missouri; his sister-in-law, Betty Bryant and husband, George, of Galt California; nephew, Phillip Bryant and wife, Kim, also of California; his brother-in-law, Marvin Crozier and wife, Laura, of Oak Grove, Missouri; the special Gottschalk family of Nebraska; and his 12 grandchildren, his 8 great-grandchildren, as well as numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and a host of friends.
Mr. Talcott never met a stranger and will be greatly missed by all.
A visitation will be held Wednesday, December 16, from 5-7:00 p.m. at Speaks Suburban Chapel, 18020 E. 39th. St. in Independence, MO. Due to COVID-19 restrictions the service will be private for family only. He will be laid to rest at Mound Grove Cemetery in Independence, MO.
