Charlotte E. Tankard, 87, of Independence, MO, passed away, Monday, September 13, 2004 at Rosewood Health Center. Services will be 10:00 a.m., Friday, September 17, 2004 at the Speaks Suburban Chapel. Burial will be in Mound Grove Cemetery. The family will greet friends from 6 to 7:30 p.m., Thursday at the chapel. Charlotte was born December 29, 1916 in Independence, MO to Christopher and Viola Isabella (Peters) Plain. She grew up in Independence and graduated from William Chrisman High School in 1935. She met and married William James Tankard on June 13, 1937. They later moved to Washington, D.C. where they lived for 29 years. She was a homemaker and devoted wife and mother who loved children, animals and cooking. She was a member of the Community of Christ Stone Church. She was preceded in death by her beloved son James A. Tankard in 1993. She is survived by her husband of 67 years, William James Tankard, of the home; 2 daughters, Barbara L. Thatcher and her husband Phillip of Independence and Carol V. Costantini and her husband Joe of Vienna, VA; a daughter-in-law, Dianne R. Tankard of Independence, MO; 2 brothers, Fred M. Plain and his wife Darlene and James I. Plain and his wife Alice all of Independence, MO; 6 grandchildren, Stacey Boerger, Kathy Tankard, Joe M. Costantini, Shelly Carpenter, Jared Thatcher and Bethany Thatcher; 2 great grandchildren, Olivia Costantini and Kevin Boerger and many nieces nephews and friends. The family suggests donations to the Community of Christ Temple Endowment Fund.
