A memorial service for Carolyn Jones Taylor was held Sunday, July 18th at 2:00 PM at Marylhurst University Chapel, 17600 Pacific Highway (Hwy. 43),in Marylhurst, OR. Graveside services will take place at Mound Grove Cemetery in Independence, Missouri.
Carolyn Jones Taylor was born December 4,1930 in St. Joseph, Missouri. She was raised and educated in Independence, Missouri. She received her nursing diploma from Graceland College in Lamoni, Iowa in 1952. She was married that same year to Chester C. Taylor in Independence. Mrs. Taylor received a Bachelors Degree in Nursing from Avila College in Kansas City, Missouri. She and Chester lived in Independence until 1968 when they moved to San Jose, California. While in San Jose Carolyn attended The University of California at Berkeley, where she received her teaching certificate. They moved in 1973 to the Portland area where she has lived since.
Mrs. Taylor received her Masters Degree in Nursing from Oregon Health Sciences University in 1976. Aferward, she worked as the Dean of the Nursing Program at Clackamas Community College. She was one of the first nurse practitioners to start a private practice, Carolyn J. Taylor PC, where she worked as a Mental Health Nurse Practitioner from 1977 to 1986. In 1987 Carolyn and her daughter, Jill, developed The Taylor Group, a firm which provides counseling and consulting to individuals, but which grew to work with the community at large as well as with public and private companies. Her work impacted thousands of people, helping them to lead happy, healthy and productive lives.
She was a member of the Americn Nursing Assocation and a menber of the Community of Christ Church.
Interment will be at Mound Grove Cemetery in Independence, Missouri.
She is survived by her husband, Chester C, Taylor of West Linn, OR; Son: Dr. Robert C. Taylor of Fresno, CA; Daughter: Jill Taylor RNMN, of West Linn, OR; Grandchildren: Alexander and Madeline Taylor of Fresno, CA; James Cooper of Denver, CO; Shane Cooper of Tualatin, OR; Tyler Cooper of Phoenix, AZ; Tasha Cooper, West Linn, OR.
