Florence Louise (Wendt) Taylor, 91 of Kansas City, MO passed away Wednesday, May 10, 2017 at St. Luke’s North Hospital. Services will be 10:00 a.m., Friday, May 19, 2017 at the St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, 17200 E. 39th St., Independence, MO 64055 with burial to follow in Terrace Park Cemetery. The family will greet friends from 6 to 8:00 p.m., Thursday evening at the Speaks Suburban Chapel, 18020 E. 39th St., Independence, MO 64055. Donations may be made to St. Paul’s Lutheran Church or to the American Diabetes Association.
Florence was born October 12, 1925 in Alma, MO to Edmund and Caroline (Karsten) Wendt. She attended public schools in Alma, graduated from Alma High School and attended Huff Business College in Kansas City. She was baptized in to the Trinity Lutheran Church in Alma in 1925 and confirmed in 1939. She was in banking and finance most of her life starting out as a teller in the Alma Bank and East San Diego branch of 1st National of California and other institutions until she retired in 1995 as Executive Secretary to the President of Tower Properties Inc. She enjoyed volunteering, music, traveling, reading and most of all loved her family and enjoyed spending time with them. She was a member of the Alpha Iota International Honorary Business Sorority at Huff College and the Executive Women International where she held several offices including President and Vice-President. She volunteered her time at Bingham Waggoner Estate, where she held various offices and the Vail Mansion. She was also a member of the Messiah Lutheran Church and later St. Paul’s Lutheran Church where she served in the choir and Sunday School Teacher at both churches. She had also served various capacities at both church’s and was particularly proud of her work with memorial acknowledgements, thanking people who sent donations as a memorial, and a council member, secretary and treasurer. She was married to John A. Taylor on January 26, 1946; he preceded her in death in July 1987. Survivors include; 2 children, Diane Taylor Macpherson and John Scott Taylor (Paula Barnes); 3 grandchildren, Ryan Macpherson (Sharin Apostolou Macpherson), Kelly Taylor Signorile (Mike) and Rebecca Taylor and 4 great grandchildren, Sofia Signorile, Luca Signorile, Aiden Taylor and Henry Taylor. She was preceded in death by her parents, 3 brothers, Rev. Walter Wendt (Louise), Bernard Wendt (Kordula “Korky”), Reinhard Wendt (Zollie), 2 sisters, Nola Wendt Barger (Wilton) and Ruth Wendt and a son-in-law, Jerry Macpherson. Florence was an amazing wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, friend, and so much more. She was a shining example for all of us to follow.
