Opal Frances Tetlow Taylor
Opal Frances Tetlow Taylor, 91, of Independence, died October 7, 2006 at Rosewood Health Center. Visitation will be held on Wednesday from 10-11 am followed by funeral services at 11:00 a.m. at Carson-Speaks Chapel. Graveside Services will be held on Wednesday at 3:00 P.M. at Rose Hill Cemetery in Brookfield, Missouri. Opal was born in Rothville, Missouri on July 4, 1915 the daughter of Claude and Cassie (White) Shoemaker. She worked for Lake City during World War II, then for the Internal Revenue Service for several years and returning to Lake City where she retired in 1977. Opal was a caring person who loved her family, housekeeping, making quilts, vegetable and flower gardening, and playing bingo. She married John P. Tetlow on January 29, 1938. He died on June 26, 1979. She later married Jack Taylor of Shawnee, Kansas and he predeceased her in 1994. She was also preceded in death by three brothers, Virgil, Bob and Jim Shoemaker and by a sister, Doris Sportsman. Opal is survived by three brothers, Russell Shoemaker and wife Marguerite of Bartlesville, Ok., Dale Shoemaker of Brookfield, Mo., and Tom Shoemaker and wife Sandia of Independence, Mo. and two sisters, Wilma Rogers of Independence, Mo. and Betty Shoemaker of Brookfield, Mo., her sister-in-law Juanita Shoemaker of Independence, Mo., and lots of nieces and nephews who all loved their Aunt Opal.
