Isidro Torres Tayo, of Independence, Missouri was born on the feast day of St. Isidore the Farmer 1925 in Gigmoto, Catanduanes Philippines. He passed away at St Luke's East Hospital Lee's Summit, Missouri on November 30, 2021. Isidro was the 6th child of Juan Tatad Tayo and Julia Tud Torres, and a sibling to Juliana(+), Luis(+), Aleja(+), Maria(+), Pablo(+), Francisco(+), Elpidio(+), Reynato(+), Felicitas(+), Rosa(+), and Ruben(+).
He married Gloria Vergara Lizaso on December 4th, 1950 in Baras, Catanduanes Philippines. He called her "my glory on Earth." They met as brand-new teachers in Biong, Gigmoto.
Isidro enjoyed planting and coconut wine making (Tuba). He was a well-loved District Supervisor in his place of assignments. He got up before the break of dawn and started his day by planting trees at the school property with his melodic whistling as his background music. School children would often see him on top of the coconut tree as they gathered for the flag ceremony.
After retirement, Isidro and Gloria built a second home at Rawis, Virac, Catanduanes. This home was enjoyed by his children and grandchildren, and they celebrated many Christmases and summers together. Some of his grandchildren were accommodated in this home while they were pursuing higher education.
Isidro immigrated to the United States around the year 2000, at 75 years old with the hope of bringing his family to America. He was a member of the Catanduanes Liberators Batallion and was naturalized from a legislation that granted U.S citizenship to Filipino Veterans of World War II. His cousin-in-law, Knef Lizaso, nephew and niece, Antonio Tayo and Aida Acosta helped him adapt and assimilate in a developed and industrialized new home country. He finally settled in Missouri, where his granddaughter, Roselle (Jojo Tarrago) and family resides.
Isidro's dream came true in 2018 when 14 of his family members came to America.
Isidro was preceded in death by son, Roland; wife, Gloria; grandson, JL; and daughter, Elisa. He is survived and mourned by his children, Nelda (Ireneo) Ramos, Edna (Andres) De la Cruz, Rene (Elvira), Emelyn (Emmanuel) Bondoc, Isidro Jr (Maura), Flor (Edgar+) Tayam, Winfred (Jocelyn); grandchildren, Roselle, Randolf, Tristan, Ryan, Ralph, Rachelle, Robert, John, Cindy, Cherry, JB, Ian, Levy, Marjohn, Marjorie, Cyrus, Floreddie, Janelle, Jessica, and Jiro; and 18 great-grandchildren.
Isidro's life will be honored with a requiem mass on December 15, 2021 at 11:00 a.m., at St Mark Catholic Church, 3736 S. Lee’s Summit Rd., Independence, MO 64055. His visitation will be on December 15, 2021 from 6-8 pm at Speaks Suburban Chapel 18020 E 39th St. Independence, MO 64055. Isidro was truly a wonderful, loving father, grandfather & great-grandfather and always remained fiercely devoted to family.
