Charles “David” Thomas, 60 of Independence, MO passed away Wednesday, December 23, 2020 at Centerpoint Medical Center. Due to Covid-19 restrictions the family will be having private services and burial in Woodlawn Cemetery. The family will greet friends from 6 to 8:00 p.m., Tuesday evening at the Speaks Suburban Chapel, 18020 E. 39th St., Independence, MO 64055. The visitation will be held under current Covid-19 restrictions of 50 people maximum in our facility at one time with social distancing and masks required. David was born March 10, 1960 in Kansas City, MO to Charles Ward and Betty Lee (Snider) Thomas and has been a lifelong area resident. He graduated from Truman High School in 1978. His career in the grocery business began with him as Co-Owner of L&D United Super and ended with him as an Assistant Store Manager with Aldi. He also worked in the plumbing industry for several years. In his spare time, up until his passing, he always provided plumbing assistance to family and friends. As busy as he was, he was still an integral part of Alison’s embroidery business. He was an avid KC sports fan of both the Chiefs and Royals; always watching and keeping up with the latest news and stats. David grew up in church and his faith in God carried him through extremely difficult times during his adult life. He was a member of Eastside Church. He embodied his role as a husband, father and grandpa to the fullest. Survivors include; his loving wife of 40 years, Alison Thomas of the home; 2 daughters, April Vahle (husband Jeremiah) and Amanda Thomas all of Independence, MO; his father, Charles Ward Thomas of Independence, MO; a sister, Ronda Brady (husband Don) of Blue Springs, MO; 3 grandchildren, Jericho, Jackson and Ashley Vahle; one nephew, Zach Brady (wife Hannah); and one niece, Kelsey Brady. He was preceded in death by his mother, Betty Lee Thomas in 2015; a daughter, Ashley Nicole Thomas in 2009 and 2 grandchildren, DJ Thomas in 2007 and Amya McKenzie Thomas in 2009.
