Gladys Marie Thomas, 94, of Independence, MO, went home to be with the Lord on April 23, 2006. Memorial services will be 7:00 p.m. Monday, May 1, 2006 at Speaks Suburban Chapel, 39th at 291. Cremation. Gladys was born December 16, 1911 in Holden, MO to Will and Effie (Chappelow) Cox and was the last living child. Her siblings were Glen, Don, Buel, Rilla, Edgar and Vera. Mrs. Thomas graduated from William Chrisman High School in 1930 and was employed at National Bellas Hess as a Complaint Adjuster. She also worked at the RLDS Auditorium and School of Restoration. She was very involved with church and children�s Sunday School. Gladys married Gerald Thomas in 1932. He preceded her in death on May 28, 1976. She is survived by her children, Pat Romero of Globe, AZ, Dale Thomas of Leawood, KS, Judy Chappelow of Amsterdam, MO, and Jan Scott of Independence, MO; 11 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren. Gladys had many talents including Braille transcription, oil painting, pastels, rug hooking, crocheting, knitting, wood carving, chair caning, candle making, ceramics, wheat weaving, sewing, calligraphy, baking wedding cakes, building fireplaces and designing 3 homes.
