Irene "Dixie" Thomas

Irene “Dixie” Thomas, 96, of Lee’s Summit, MO, formerly of Independence, MO, passed away peacefully on March 8, 2016 at Medicalodge of Nevada, MO. Services will be at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, March 12, at Coventry Estates Baptist Church, 17133 E. 39th St. S., Independence, MO 64055. Visitation before the service will be 10:00 a.m. until 11:00 a.m. at the church. Graveside service at 3:00 p.m. Saturday in Peninsula Cemetery in Blackwater, MO.

Dixie was born August 16, 1919 in Cooper County, MO to Tandy Newton and Mamie (Tucker) Dix. She married John Robert Thomas in Reno, NV on June 20, 1937, and they enjoyed 70 years of marriage together. Dixie was saved at an early age and was active in the church as long as she was able.

She is survived by son Michael Thomas, daughters Susan Weese and husband Rex, Peggy Srader and husband David; grandchildren James (Tammy) Thomas, Debbie Trent, Michelle (Jeff) Houchin, Jason Thomas, Felicia (Kyle) Stinson, Amy (Steve) King, Julie (Brett) Harris, Christopher (Joanna), Stephanie, Sara, and Daniel Srader; 17 great-grandchildren, 6 great-great-grandchildren; sisters Ann Zeffiro, Lorene (John) Moore, Gladys Smith; sister-in-law Linda Dix; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and many friends who will remember her with love.

Dixie was preceded in death by her husband John; their infant son, John Edward Thomas; daughter-in-law Josefina M. deThomas; granddaughter Rhoda Lee Thomas; sisters Nona Mae Inskeep, Ruby Johnston and brothers Floyd Dix and Roger Dix.
