James Richard Thomas, Sr., 94, of Independence, MO, passed away on June 19, 2021. James was born on September 24, 1926 in Kansas City, Missouri, to Robert and Irma Thomas. James worked as a tool and die maker and specialized in injection molding, retiring from Dollins Tool and Gage Inc. in Independence, MO. He was a lifetime member of the International Association of Machinists. In his earlier years he enjoyed bowling on his company teams. He liked to travel, visit with friends and dabble in woodworking. He is survived by his daughter, Judy Bomar; granddaughter, Lisa (Eric) Jackson; grandson, David (Lynn) Kent; grandson, Jim (Melissa) Rapp; 7 great-grandchildren, Matthew, Joshua (Kara), Meghan, Dylan, Kaitlyn, Alex and Ellie; 2 great-great-grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his wife, Anna Thomas; son, James Thomas, Jr., parents, Robert and Irma Thomas and 8 siblings. A private graveside service to honor James will be held for the family. He will be laid to rest at Floral Hills Cemetery in Kansas City, MO. In memory of James, the family suggests contributions to be made to either the American Heart Association or to Kansas City Hospice.
