Thomas R. Yount 76 passed away Friday, June 30, 2023 at his home. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m., Friday, July 7, 2023 at the Speaks Suburban Chapel, 18020 E. 39th St., Independence, MO 64055. A graveside service will follow at 1:00 p.m., Friday with full military honors at the Missouri State Veterans Cemetery in Higginsville, MO. The family will greet friends from 9:00 a.m., until service time Friday at the chapel. Donations may be made in his name to the Vietnam Veterans of America, 3027 Walnut St., Kansas City, MO 64108. Tom was born June 12, 1947 in Kansas City, MO to Raymond R. and Helen Elizabeth (Page) Yount. He attended Shawnee Mission High School in Overland Park and has been a life long area resident. After high school Tom enlisted in the US Army where he served 2 tours in Vietnam for which he was awarded the Bronze Star. Tom proudly served his country for 21 years from 1965-86. After retirement from the Army he then began work for the Blue Springs School District in the maintenance and transportation department from 1991 to 2009. Tom is survived by his wife of 51 years, Betty (Seibel) Yount; a daughter, Kathy Yount Sell and husband Shawn and 2 grandchildren, Dakota and Cheyanne; a brother and 3 sisters and many nieces and nephews.
