Betty Sue Thompson, age 80 of Oak Grove, Missouri, moved to her heavenly home 01/14/2023. Betty was born January 10, 1943 in Camp, Arkansas, the daughter of Charles Harold and Della Allen. Later the family would move north to a small farm near Buckner, Missouri. Betty took a liking to the next door neighbor, Charley Thompson, the two of which would become inseparable for the rest of their lives. Following her graduation from Fort Osage High School, and Charley’s stint in Germany with the US Army, they were married and had two sons, Mark and Brian.
Betty would become the consummate room mother for the boys. Other interests included summer trips to Pomme de Terre Lake and a lifelong dedication to working with WWII Marine POW’s from Wake Island, as she put out a regular newsletter, The Wake Island Wig Wag, for five decades. Later on, her and Charley enjoyed trips out West, marveling at sites such as Mt. Rushmore, The Badlands, Yellowstone, Glacier, Arches, Canyonlands, Grand Canyon, and miles of backroad adventures in Colorado. At home, she followed the activities of her grandchildren, nieces and nephews and looked forward to regular visits and phone calls with her siblings.
Betty was proceeded in death by her parents Charles and Della Allen, a brother, Lee Allen, husband Charley Thompson, son Brian Thompson and grandson David Thompson, and a host of aunts, uncles, brother-in-laws, sister-in-laws, and nephews. She is survived by her son Mark (Denise) Thompson, Pleasant Hill, MO., grandchildren Mark (Jesica) Thompson II, Warrensburg, MO., Nicole (Ted) Hunt, St. Louis, MO., Heather Camuso (Pete), Warrensburg, MO., Luke and Rachel Thompson, Pleasant Hill, MO., beloved sister Bonnie Riner (and her children and grandchildren), Buckner, Mo., brother Butch (Vickie and family), Branson, Mo., sister-in-law Darlene Barker, Niangua, MO, brother-in-law Harold Thompson, Blue Springs, MO and countless other family and friends.
