Dan L. Thompson, 66, Independence, MO passed away Tuesday, November 26, 2013.
Dan was born March 25, 1947 in Fullerton, CA the son of Carmi and Donna Fae (Hoskins) Thompson. He graduated from BYU with a B.A. in communications. Dan worked as a loan officer for various financial institutions including Barkley Financial Corporation. He was a member of the LDS Church and served in numerous positions such as a primary teacher and gospel doctrine teacher. In the 1960’s Dan served as a missionary in Germany. Dan was a history, opera and genealogy buff and volunteered numerous hours at the Midwest Genealogy Center. He also taught Greco Wrestling and was a substitute teacher throughout the Kansas City area schools.
Survivors include his loving wife, Louisa Thompson of 18 years; daughter, Tonja Whitford and husband Kevin; son, Jake Thompson and wife Erin; daughter, Miriam Shumway and husband Jason; ten grandchildren; mother, Donna Fae Thompson; brother, Steve Thompson; sisters, Michele Noel, Jean Morales and additional nieces nephews and family. He was preceded in death by his son, Mark Thompson; and father.
Memorial services will be at 10:00 a.m. Saturday, November 30, 2013 at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints; 5609 S. Norfleet Rd., Kansas City, MO 64133. Graveside services to follow at Brooking Cemetery. Online condolences may be expressed at www.speakschapel.com
