Fred Leon Thompson

Fred Leon Thompson, 73, of Independence, MO passed away on Tuesday, October 26, 2004 after a long time battle with cancer. Visitation will be held from 6-8:00 p.m. on Friday, October 29, at the Speaks Suburban Chapel. The service will be at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday at the chapel with burial at Mt. Washington Cemetery. Fred was born on January 23, 1931 in Winston, MO to Fred O. and Beulah Thompson. He went on to serve in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. Fred and his wife Verna bought their own company, Thompson Auto Parts in 1963. They sold the business in 1979. He continued his career in the wholesale parts business until he retired. Fred was a member of the ARARAT Temple, and was a Mason at the following lodges, #149 Lexington Lodge; #10 Lexington Chapter; #3 Demolay Comm.; #49 Independence Council. Fred loved life, and spent much of it outdoors hunting, fishing and riding his motorcycle. He loved his family very much, and will be missed dearly. Fred was preceded in death by his grandson, Jeffrey Wiggans. He is survived by his wife of 51 years, Verna Thompson; daughter, Jackie and husband Ron Wiggans; two sons, Joe and wife Linda Thompson and Jim and wife Stacy Thompson; grandchildren, Jillian and Julie Wiggans, Andrea, Chris, Aaron, Devon and Stephanie Thompson; stepmother, Martha Thompson; one sister; and two brothers.
