James J. Thompson “Jim” age 69, of Independence, Missouri passed away on Saturday, July 27, 2019. He was born on December 5, 1949 in Independence, Missouri to Fred O. Thompson and Martha M. (Perry) Thompson. Jim graduated from Van Horn High School. In Independence, Missouri. He was a proud veteran of the United States Air Force and served 4 years. Jim worked for Butler Manufacturing, Allis Chalmers/Agco as an engineer, and Haldex Brake Systems. Jim attended UMKC and received a Master’s and 4 Bachelor’s Civil and Mechanical Engineering. After retirement Jim, enjoyed woodworking and taking care of his 2 acres of landscaping. Jim, along with his 2 beloved dogs became involved in Pet Partners, and this is where he found what he truly loved. Jim is preceded in death by his parents Fred and Martha Thompson and a brother Leon Thompson. Survivors include: wife Karen (Stucker) Thompson; daughter Dee Farrand and her husband Bruce; daughter Mandy Thompson and her partner Casey Jackson; 4 grandchildren; 2 great grandchildren; brother Charles Thompson and his wife Mary; sister Dorothy Barrant; many nieces and nephews; extended family and friends. The family would like to express their sincere thanks for the care that Jim received at KC Hospice and their staff.
