Lillian Frances (Ireland) Thompson, 75, of Independence, MO passed away Saturday, May 06, 2006 following a courageous battle with cancer. Services will be 10:00 a.m. Wednesday, May 10, 2006 at Six Mile Baptist Church. Visitation will be 6-8:00 p.m. Tuesday at Speaks Suburban Chapel where she will be laying in state at 2:00 p.m. Burial in Six Mile Cemetery. In lieu of flowers Frances suggests doing a good deed for the needy or contributions to the church, Six Mile Cemetery or Liberty Hospital Hospice. Frances was born May 10, 1930 in Osecola, MO to Newell and Jane (Jones) Ireland. Her family lived in Osceola, Lutie, Ocie, Kansas City, Jefferson City and Clinton. Frances graduated from Clinton High School in 1947. Mrs. Thompson was baptized in Theodosia in July 1947. She was married to Ralph E. Thompson on December 17, 1950 in Chillicothe, MO. Frances had been a member of the Lutie True Hope Baptist Church, First Baptist Chillicothe, First Baptist Buckner and Six Mile Baptist Church. She taught Sunday School for a number of years in Chillicothe, Buckner and Six Mile. Frances had been a G.A. Leader, Regent for Fort Osage Chapter DAR, 4H Club leader, room mother, cub scout den mother and C.A.R. senior leader. She was a loving wife, mother and grandmother. Before her marriage, she was a legal secretary in Gainesville and editorial assistant with Unity. Upon her marriage, she lived in Chillicothe and was a legal secretary for Somerville & Cleaveland until the birth of their daughter, Susan. She felt blessed to enjoy being home with their 4 small children and in 1964 moved to Sibley where her husband was employed by MPS, Sibley power plant. As a helpmate to Ralph, she was a clerk-steno for engineers and was a medical secretary. She retired after 15 years as Clerical Supervisor for the State Probation and Parole Office in Independence, MO. She enjoyed fishing, water-skiing, camping, traveling, genealogy, gardening, crocheting, hummingbirds and quilting. Frances also enjoyed several winters in the Rio Grande Valley after retirement. Mrs. Thompson had been a member of the Santa Fe Trailers Square Dance Club, the Fort Osage Historical Society, Rio Grande Valley Quilt Guild, and the Piece Makers Quilt Club in Independence. She enjoyed making baby quilts for hospitals and the needy as well as making lap quilts for nursing homes and the veteran�s hospital. Foreign countries she has sent baby quilts to include Kosovo, The Sudan, Mexico, Guatemala and Honduras. Most of the quilts had gone to Texas and for Indian babies in South Dakota. Frances is survived by her children Susan and husband Terry Wright, Barbara and husband Vadney Rinne, Linda and husband Daryl Atkins, David Thompson; grandchildren Carrie, Daniel, Jonathan, Melody, Joshua and Andrea; mother Jane Dancy, aunt May McAllister; sisters Mary Buford, Geneva High, Karen Stewart and Vicki Leonard; brothers Allan Dancy, Jim Dancy and Joe Dancy; many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Frances was preceded in death by her husband of 54 years, Ralph in 2005, father Newell Ireland, step-father Neal Dancy, brother Chief Master Sgt. Robert Ireland, who was Missing in Action in Laos, sister Dora Lee Haltom, and grandson Andrew Atkins.
