William F. Thompson, 81 of Independence, MO passed away Monday, November 13, 2017 at Centerpoint Medical Center. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 2:00 p.m., Saturday, November 18, 2017 at St. Joseph the Worker Catholic Church, 2200 N Blue Mills Rd, Independence, MO 64058 with burial to follow in Salem Cemetery. The family will greet friends from 1:00 p.m., until service time at the church. Donations may be made in his name to St. Joseph the Worker Catholic Church. William was born May 10, 1936 in Kansas City, MO to George and Helen (Arehart) Thompson and has been a lifelong area resident. He had worked for the KC Star for over 33 years as a typesetter until he retired in 1991. He enjoyed airplanes and computers. He was a member of the deaf community and volunteered his time to help where needed. He was a member of the Telecommunications for the Deaf, Missouri Association of the Deaf and a member of the Metro Golden Age. He is survived by; his wife of 60 years, Juanita of the home; a son, Ricky Thompson of the home; 3 grandsons, Troy, Ian and Corey and 4 great grandsons and 6 great granddaughters. He was preceded in death by 2 sons, David Thompson in 2006 and Frank Thompson in 1986, his parents and a brother, Larry Thompson.
