Jeanne M. Thornton, 84 of Independence passed away on Mar. 1, 2007. Services will be 11:00 am Mon, Mar 5, 2007 at the Carson- Speaks Chapel, 1501 W. Lexington Ave., Indep. MO with the visitation being held one hour prior to the service. Burial in Mt. Washington Forever Cemetery. Contributions are suggested to the Humane Society or the Alzheimer�s Association. Mrs. Thornton was born on Jul. 28, 1922 to David and Lucille (Shouse) Smallwood in Kansas City, MO. Mrs. Thornton was a secretary for the War Department, Intelligence Division from 1942 to Oct. 1945. From 1945 to 1949 she was employed at the Veterans Administration. From 1969 until 1978 she had been a Secretary for Northeast High School, Nowlin Jr. High and Lake City Ammunitions Plant. Mrs. Thornton was a loving wife, mother and grandmother who enjoyed Gardening, Painting and animals. She was a member of Rockwood Baptist Church and "The Club� in Independence. Mrs. Thornton is survived by her husband of 60 years, Edward Thornton of Lenexa, KS . A son, Dennis Thornton of Overland Park, KS; a daughter, Janice McIntyre and husband James Guglimino of Kansas City, KS and a granddaughter, Amy Thornton of Lawrence, KS.
