Joyce Ann Thumm (Dieterman)

Joyce Ann Thumm, 89, Independence, MO passed away June 30, 2018. A Memorial Service will be scheduled at a later date.
Joyce was born April 20, 1929 in Marion, MI and grew up in Grand Rapids, MI before earning her Associate Degree from Graceland College. She worked with the Federal Nutritional Program for a time, managed a fabric shop in the late 1960’s and later became a professional artist. She has some of her work displayed all over the world. She was a member of the Community of Christ for over seventy-two years and served as a missionary with her husband in Japan for four years and for twenty-eight years traveled the United States. She was able to turn her love of painting into a career but also enjoyed beading jewelry and creating loom portraits. She was a great wife and mother.
Joyce was preceded in death by sister Jenny Harvey and brother Harry J. Dieterman. She is survived by her husband of sixty-eight years John Thumm, of the home; daughters Cynthia Woodley, Independence, MO; Pamela Spain, of the home; brothers Merlin Dieterman; Almer Dieterman and wife Roberta; sisters Judy Middleton and husband Bob; Doris Hall; Darla Smith and husband Roland, all of Grand Rapids, MI; Diane Wenn, Fenton, MI; grandson John Woodley and wife Brandie, Milford, PA; granddaughter Jamie Mullins, Mason City, IA.
