ElRoy Thurman Jr (known as J.R or Junior to family and friends) of Lees Summit, MO passed away on Tuesday, October 3, 2017 at the age of 66.
J.R. was born in Bonne Terre, MO on March 8, 1951 to ElRoy Sr. and Virginia (Dodson) Thurman and spent most of his years in the surrounding area until he moved to Lees Summit, MO in 1997.
In addition to his parents, J.R. was preceded in death by 3 grandchildren, Jordan, Mia, and Elijah as well as his Father-In-Law Leo Ives.
J.R. is survived by his wife Carla (Ives), daughter and son-in-law Angela and Thomas Kite of Lees Summit MO, daughter and son-in-law Marsha and Jeff Hasty and three grandchildren, Emmitt, Carleigh and Delaney Hasty all of Lees Summit, MO. He is also survived by his brothers and sisters, Jimmy (Connie) Thurman, Donna (Gary) Hedrick, Brenda Davis and Robert (Ginger) Thurman. In addition, he is survived by his mother-in-law Nancy (Estes) Ives brother-in-law Neal (Vivian) Ives and sister-in-law Lisa (Randy) Charles as well as many beloved nieces, nephews and friends.
J.R. was an ordained minister and enjoyed working and ministering in several churches around Missouri and Illinois. He also had a passion for sports cars and enjoyed going to car shows, watching sports and most of all spending time with his family. J.R. was a member of GracePointe Community Church in Lees Summit MO.
After cremation there will be two memorial services one in Lees Summit MO at a later date and another in Mineral Point, MO at 2:00pm on October 21, 2017 at Covenant Grace Church of God.
