Olevia Tommey

January 21, 1911 — November 23, 2007

Olevia J. Tommey, 96, of Independence, MO went home to be with her Lord and Savior on Friday, November 23, 2007 at Seasons Care Center. She fought the good fight, she kept the faith and she finished the race. Olevia was born January 21, 1911, the daughter of Christian and Rosetta (Anna) Roth, in DeQueen, AR. She attended school there, later moving to Nashville, AR. On July 19, 1930 she was united in marriage to Dave G. Tommey. They made their home in Nashville until 1938, then moving to Kansas City, MO. Shortly thereafter, they moved to Independence, MO, where they made their home. Her husband, Dave passed away on August 25, 1974. Olevia is survived by one daughter, Anna Lou Tommey of Raytown, MO; two sons, J. Harold Tommey and wife Barbara of Cameron, MO, and Charles David Tommey and wife Dottie of Parkersburg, WV; six grandchildren, Maurice, Mark, Cynthia, Cheryl, Charles Robert and Janet; as well as thirteen great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband Dave; three sisters; and five brothers. Olevia was a member of the Crescent Creek Community Church, formerly Waldo Avenue Baptist Church where she taught Sunday School for many years. A visitation will be held from 1-2:00 p.m. on Saturday, December 1, at the Speaks Suburban Chapel (on 39th St. just west of 291 Hwy). The service will follow at 2:00 p.m. in the chapel. Burial at Oak Ridge Memory Gardens. In lieu of flowers contributions may be made to the Crescent Creek Community Church in memory of Olevia.
