Doris Eileen Tompkins (Hunt)

Doris Eileen Hunt Tompkins, 91, of Independence, MO passed away on Thursday, November 25, 2021.
Doris was born in Kansas City, MO to William L. Hunt and Mattie D. Leas Hunt. They moved to Fairmount, MO where she went to Fairmount Grade School and graduated from Northeast High School. She worked at Roberts Drugstore where she met Cary F. Tompkins Jr . They were married March 3, 1951. They were married 46 years. She worked at Sealtest Dairy, Krogers (where she was the cashier for Harry S. Truman), Thriftway, KC Market Research, and then Kiernan Companies where she retired at the age of 82.
She loved her church, especially the youth. She taught and traveled all over the US, Canada, and prisons with them. She loved making things for her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren. She loved her Chiefs and Royals.
She is preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Cary F. Tompkins Jr, and her son, Thomas L. Tompkins.
Doris is survived by her sons; Steven (Jeannie) Tompkins, Cary F. Tompkins III and daughter, Melinda (James) Davis, 14 grandchildren, 32 great grandchildren, and countless others that called her their own (and they were ALL her favorite!).
Visitation will be held at 9:00AM followed by a service at 10 at Bethel Baptist Church- 2406 S State Route 291 Independence, MO 64057. Graveside service will follow at Woodlawn Cemetery- 701 S. Noland Road Independence, MO 64050.
