Kathryn Marie Tompkins
Kathryn Marie Tompkins of Independence, died November 4, 2006. She was born in Allen County, Kansas of Swedish parents on June 20, 1913. The second generation of pioneers to establish homesteads in Kansas. Kathryn was baptized, confirmed and married in the Lutheran Faith.
Most of her life was spent in the Kansas City area and she was a resident of the Truman Heritage district over 50 years. Kathryn was a member of the Independence Young Matrons for over 50 years. She met and married Dr. G. R. Tompkins in 1938. They spent 56 years together.
She is survived by a son Gordon and his wife Janis, two sisters Pearl Kearns of Kansas City and Florence Weeks of Wichita. Preceding her in death were two brothers Herbert and George Leadstrom.
In keeping with her wishes there will be a private family funeral service with entombment in Mound Grove Mausoleum.
