Samuel Kamu Toomey, Jr., Col. Ret., 93, Independence, Mo. died July 2, 2004 at Independence Regional Hospital. Memorial services will be 2 pm, Sunday, July 25, 2004 at New Hope R.L.D.S. Church, 220 W. Moore, Indep., Mo. Cremation. Visitation will follow the service. A full Military Honors Service will take place at the National Cemetery of the Pacific, Honolulu, HI at a later date. The family suggests contributions to the church or Kansas City Hospice. Col. Toomey was born Jan. 17, 1911 at Alae, Kona, Hawaii and lived off and on in Indep., Mo. since 1946. He served in the Army in the "Pacific Area� during WW II and in the Korean Conflict. After a distinguished career in the Army, he retired as a Colonel in Jan., 1964. He was a member of the R.L.D.S. Church New Hope Congregation. Col. Toomey was preceded in death by his wife of sixty years, Winifred Piltz Toomey in Nov., 1995. His survivors include two daughters, Priscilla Ruth Dietiker and Tiona Jean Shelton and husband, Harry, Independence; two sons, Samuel K. Toomey, III, Missing In Action, and George G. Toomey and wife, Deanne, Las Vegas, NV; two brothers, William D. Toomey, Fallbrook, CA. and Lot K. Toomey, Honolulu, HI; sister Annie Leilehua Wilson, Kailua, HI; eight grandchildren and fourteen great-grandchildren.
