Georgia Rose Towers was born in Glendale, CA on Sept 20th, 1936 to Ace and Mildred Dodge. Her father was a heavy weight prize fighter until Georgia was born and that is where she received her “fighting spirit.” In her younger years of life, the family moved a great deal and she lived in California, Washington state, Oklahoma, and Michigan. She claimed that all she wanted in life was a nice husband that was settled down in one place for her to raise a family. When she graduated from High School in Rockford, MI she married her High School sweetheart, Edwin Towers who was a hometown boy who had only traveled to Sugar Valley, GA a few times to go on family vacations. Ed joined the Navy a year after they were married and Georgia became a full-time housewife and mother to two children - Cynthia and Jeffrey, while traveling up and down the Atlantic and Pacific coasts for the next 23 years. Once the children were grown and leaving home for college, Georgia once more entered the working world outside the home. She had served as a legal secretary for a few years after they were married, and once the children were gone, she became an Executive Secretary at a Defense Department contracting firm. In those transition years, she and Ed joined the Community of Christ church in Chula Vista, CA where she served as a Pastor, and as a District President Counselor. Aside from her spiritual wisdom and sensitivity, she was gifted with the ability to remember people's names and to make everyone feel valued and comfortable in her home and in her presence. She also served as an Evangelist in her church, both in San Diego and the Independence areas.
Her most recent notable accomplishments (and a job she dearly loved) was her volunteer work at Centerpoint Hospital as the assistant coordinator of all Volunteers and Chaplains. She served for over 10 years at that HCA facility and received the "Frist Humanitarian Award" - "In recognition of exemplary service to patients and the healthcare community". Georgia was diagnosed with Ovarian Cancer in 2019 and fought the cancer through several chemotherapy regimens. She entered in-home Hospice care on December 1, 2021 and God called her home at 9 PM on December 3, where she had been surrounded by her loved ones throughout the day.
Georgia was a loving wife, sister, mother, grandmother, and great grandmother who was supportive of and devoted to her family and church. She will be lovingly remembered and missed by those who survive her: husband, Ed Towers; siblings, Sandra Wilson and Dwight Dodge, Jr.; children, Cynthia and Harry Ebersohn, and Jeff and Brendalee Towers; grand and great-grandchildren, Bryony, John, Tyler, Cassidy, and Alysandra Beveridge; Josh, Karen, Sterling and Sophie Vest; Caitlin, William, Lilliana, and Gabriel Marble; and Carey, Josh, Remington, Hayden, and Kaelyn Killough.
A visitation to honor Georgia will be held on Friday, December 10, from 1-2:00 p.m., with a memorial service to follow at 2:00 p.m., both at E. 39th Street Community of Christ church, 15006 E. 39th St., Independence, MO 64055.
