Clarence E. “Chuck” Townsend

Clarence E. “Chuck” Townsend, 69 of Independence, MO passed away Thursday, January 21, 2021 at North Kansas City Hospital. Chuck will lie in state from 11:00 a.m., until 4pm on Friday, January 29, 2021 where the family will greet friends from 5-7:00 p.m. Friday evening at the Speaks Suburban Chapel, 18020 E. 39th St., Independence, MO 64055. Private funeral services and burial with full military honors will be in Lobb Cemetery. Donations may be made in his name to Harvester’s Food Pantry. Chuck was born March 15, 1951 in Conran, MO to Millard Columbus and Minnie Marie Angelion (Curtis) Townsend and spent his early years in Southeast Missouri and graduated from Libourn High School. He soon enlisted in the US Air Force on July 7, 1969 and retired as a Master Sergeant. During his service he was stationed in Germany and Las Vegas. Chuck began his second career as a funeral director and embalmer in 1986 and graduated from Kansas City Kansas Community College with an associate’s in mortuary science. He worked for over 35 years at the Speaks Chapels as a funeral director, embalmer and general manager until he retired from full time service but still worked part-time for Speaks Chapels. He was a member of Eastview Lions Club, President of Lobb Cemetery and was a long-time member of St. Matthew United Methodist Church and current member of St. Mark’s United Methodist Church. He enjoyed collecting coins, cast iron skillets and M&M memorabilia. Chuck was married to Patricia A. Calvert on December 18, 1971; she survives of the home. Other survivors include; 2 daughters, Carrie Geib (Jon) and Amanda Hough (Geovondie); 4 grandchildren, Hailey Geib, Grayson Hough, Geneva Hough and Romeo Rodriguez; 1 sister Connie Hayes and numerous other family and friends.
