William "Scott" Triplett Iii

December 11, 1957 — April 4, 2021

William “Scott” Triplett III passed away at home on April 4, 2021. On December 11, 1957, he was born in Sutton, WV, to Lela Claris and William Scott Triplett Jr. He spent his formative years in Ravenswood, WV. In 1976, he met his high school sweetheart, Debbie Ellis, who became his wife and soulmate for over 40 years.
Scott worked various jobs until a plant production supervisor position brought him to the Kansas City, MO area. Scott and Debbie settled in Blue Springs and then Grain Valley, where they raised their two children, Sara and Joshua. Scott later got into the insurance agent business for many years. Finally, he ended with a part-time job at Bass Pro Shops. His dream job!

Scott liked to hunt deer and squirrels in his younger years with his mom, dad, and friends in the hills of WV. However, fishing for largemouth bass was his absolute passion. If he wasn’t fishing, you could find him messing with his tackle, reading bass magazines, talking with friends about the latest lures, techniques, and water conditions. He joined the Independence Bass Master’s Club in 1986. He fished monthly fishing tournaments with them. Over the years, he also fished in the Red Man Tournaments and Big Bass Bash. He also dedicated his time, boat, tackle, and talent to the Wounded Warrior Foundation taking veterans out for a weekend of fun.

He was so proud of his kids. Sara married Andy Hensen, a Technical Sergeant in the U.S. Air Force. Just a couple months ago, Sara also joined the U.S. Air Force and graduated basic training with flying colors. His granddaughter Paesyn Elizabeth, daughter of Sara and Andy, just turned 10. Joshua spent time in the Army and was recently married to Shelbi. Joshua proudly stepped into the daddy role to her two sons. They just announced the pregnancy of a new baby grandson. When Scott found out, he said, "Carrying on the Triplett name!"

Scott could talk to anyone and everyone; He knew no strangers. He could strike up a conversation about anything and had a million jokes to share. He kept in contact with so many of his classmates of 1977, as well as, old and new acquaintances.

He is survived by his wife Debbie, Daughter Sara Hensen, and Son Joshua Triplett. His dad, William Scott Triplett Jr., Oldest sister Shireene Matheny, Sister Dian O’Rourke, Sister Missy Staats, Granddaughter Paesyn Hensen, Mother and Father-in-law Doris and Charles Ellis, Brother and Sister-in-law Chuck and Monika Ellis, and numerous other family and friends.

A visitation to honor Scott will be held on Wednesday, April 14, at Speaks Suburban Chapel in Independence, MO, from 6-8:00 p.m. Online condolences may be expressed to the family at www.speakschapel.com (Arrangements: Speaks Suburban Chapel (816) 373-3600)
