Curtis Dee “Curt” Truitt, 91, Kansas City, MO passed away peacefully on Friday August 16th, 2013. Funeral services will be at 10:00 a.m. Wednesday, August 21, 2013 at Carson-Speaks Chapel; 1501 W. Lexington, Independence, MO 64052. Burial to follow at Mt. Washington Cemetery with Military Honors. Visitation will be from 6:00-8:00 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.
Curt was born July 5, 1922 in Collins, MO the son of Lec and Virgie (Peterman) Truitt. He grew up in Independence, MO and graduated from William Chrisman High School in 1941. On September 26th, 1942 he was united in marriage to Retta Lee Cathey in Independence, MO. On September 29, 1942, he entered into the United States Navy where he attained the rank of Sea 1/c VB-115 in the Headquarters Squadron, Fleet Air Wing #14. He was honorably discharged on November 16, 1945 but served until October 9, 1965 in the U.S. Naval Reserves. Following his military service he worked for Amoco Oil, General Motors, and Ford Motor Company where he retired in 2002 at the age of 80. He was a member of the Maywood Baptist Church, the United Auto Workers Local 249, and Pipe Fitters Local 533.
He was preceded in death by his wife and parents. Survivors include his sister, Corrine Hartnett of Independence, MO; two children, Melodee Clark, of Lee’s Summit, MO and Kim Truitt, of Kansas City, MO; four grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; one niece; and by many, many friends.
