Leo Ray Truitt, 97, passed away peacefully on December 3, 2015, at his home surrounded by his loving family. He was born on August 14, 1918, in Collins, Missouri, the oldest of five children born to Ray and Ina (Sink) Truitt.Leo graduated from Collins High School in 1936. He was a veteran of World War II, U.S. Army, 27th Infantry Division, from October 1941 to November 1943. He moved to Independence, Missouri, in 1944 where he worked for the Independence U.S. Postal Office. He and his wife owned the Bridge Café in Independence for 38 years retiring in 1985.Leo’s hobbies were fishing, hunting, gardening and enjoying the outdoors. He looked forward attending his grandchildren and great-grandchildren’s sporting events, dance recitals, school activities and family gatherings. Leo was a member of the Immanuel Baptist Church of Independence. He was preceded in death by his parents and four siblings.
Leo is survived by his wife, Mary, of 67 years, daughters Carolyn Johnson and Marilyn Reinhard, grandchildren Jennifer (Eric) Ward, Brett Reinhard, Neil (Shelly) Johnson, Jeff Reinhard and Lindsey (Cole) Amaya and great-grandchildren Kylee, Kaylyn and Luke Ward, Saylor, Xander and Ollie Johnson, Jude Reinhard and Brecken Amaya.Services for Leo will be on December 7, 2015. Visitation at 1:00 pm followed by the funeral at 2:00 pm at the Carson-Speaks Funeral Home, 1501 W. Lexington Avenue, Independence, Missouri. Burial will follow at Woodlawn Cemetery, Independence.
Pallbearers will be Brett and Jeff Reinhard, Neil Johnson, Eric Ward, Cole Amaya and Jackie Truitt.
