Thomas Leroy “Tom” Truman, 70 of Independence, MO passed away Friday, December 8, 2017 at Centerpoint Medical Center. A Masonic Service will begin at 1:30 p.m., Thursday, December 14, 2017 immediately followed by funeral services at the Speaks Suburban Chapel, 18020 E. 39th St., Independence, MO 64055. Burial with full military honors will be in Blue Springs Cemetery. The family will greet friends from 5:30 to 8:00 p.m., Wednesday, December 13, 2017 at the chapel. In lieu of flowers the family requests donations in his name to the Masonic Home 6033 Masonic Dr., Columbia, MO 65202. Tom was born May 27, 1947 in Burbank, CA to Max Arthur and Jean Marie (Cate) Truman. He had worked as the administrator for the Kansas City VA Hospital for 17 years until 1986. He enjoyed gardening, stained glass work, painting and other crafts and home décor. He was a member of the Buckner Community of Christ. He also was a member of the Masonic Blue Lodge AF&AM, Scottish Rite, York Rite and the DAV. He proudly served in the US Navy in Vietnam from 1965-69. Survivors include; a son, Jason Truman of Raytown, MO; a brother, Robert Eugene Truman and wife Marianne of Lee’s Summit, MO; 2 sisters, Nancy Young and husband Robert of Independence, MO and Billie Jean Kunkle-Haffner and husband Michael of Las Vegas, NV and numerous nieces, nephews and other extended family and friends. He was preceded in death by his wife Patricia in 2013, a brother, John Dale Blevins and his parents.
