Leonard Earnest “Ernie” Tucker, 72, passed away on April 30, 2017. A visitation will be held on Saturday, May 6, from 12:30pm-2:00pm, with funeral service at 2:00pm, both at Carson-Speaks Chapel, 1501 W. Lexington Ave., Independence, MO. He will be laid to rest in Mount Washington Cemetery.
Contributions may be made to Children’s Mercy Hospital.
Ernie was born on Sept. 9, 1944, in Kansas City, MO, to Leonard and Nellie (Henderson) Tucker. He graduated from Northeast High School, and went on to receive an Associate’s degree in computer science from MCC, and a Bachelor’s and Master’s degree in business from UMKC. Ernie was an inspector for Armco Steel for over 24 years, and also did maintenance for the Raytown School district for 10 years.
Ernie was highly intelligent, earning his place on the Deans List during college. He was also an Eagle Scout, swam on the high school swim team, and loved to mentor children of all ages. He enjoyed pitching baseball, attending church, and helping others. He had a heart of gold, and would give generously to friends and strangers alike. He was kind, agreeable, and thoughtful of his family and coworkers, and will be dearly missed.
Survivors include his partner of 33 years, Joyce Huffman; best friends, Herbert “Wayne” Williams (wife, Bobbie) and Jean Mills; and a host of extended family and many, many friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
