Kenneth William Tweedie, 77 of Independence passed away on Wed. Aug. 15, 2007 at his home. Ken was born on Sep. 22, 1929 in Burma, India. He came to Independence by way of India, England, Canada, Egypt, Cyprus, Beirut, Malta and Toronto. He served with the British Army and then with the Canadian Army, serving in the Suez Canal Zone and the Gaza Strip. He worked with Yearbook House in Kansas City before working with the Kansas City Pollution Department from which he retired in 1990. He is survived by his wife of 24 ½ years, Esther Tweedie of Independence, his adored dog Holly; son, Robert George Hughes of Kansas City, MO; daughter, Deborah Jean Newman of Elko, MN; two brothers, Bruce and Brian of St. Catherine’s, Ontario, Canada; two sisters, Winnie of England and Mary of Australia. Two grandchildren, Trenton Andrew Clifton and Beth Ann Hughes; sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Jeanne and Marty Saban of Lake Tapawingo, special friends, Sue and Bud Bruckner of Blue Springs, MO and many nieces and nephews.
