Kathryn “Kay” Lee Van Fleet (Jagger), age 89, was born in Redding, Iowa June 29, 1925 to Lewis Franklin and Gladys Vera Jagger. The family moved to Independence, MO when she was 3. She has a younger brother Lewis (Bud) Jagger and a younger sister Donna Belle Miller and husband Merlin. Her parents and siblings preceded her in death. Kay graduated from Wm. Chrisman High School and obtained her business degree from Graceland College in Lamoni, Iowa in 1947. She worked for Hallmark Cards as an executive secretary to the Creative Art Dept. She was married to Edgar A. Van Fleet on July 1, 1949 and shared 65 wonderful years together having 2 sons, the oldest son Richard A. Van Fleet married to Karen Volz and they have 3 sons, Bryan, Eric, and Jason. The youngest son Ronald L. Van Fleet married to Brenda French and they have 3 children, Katie and her husband David Cromwell, Breanna and Zach, and sister-in-law Donna Jagger of Indiana. She was a life long member of the RLDS (Community of Christ) Church and attended the last 45 years at the South Crysler Congregation. Kay loved singing and sang in the Cantanina Choir for many years. She loved people and did not know a stranger. She loved her Lord and desired to serve him fully. One of her favorite scriptures was Psalms 121:1-3 “I will lift up mine eye’s unto the hills from wince cometh my help, my help comes from the Lord, who made heaven and earth. Behold He who keepeth Israel, shall neither slumber nor sleep”. Her husband and family were dear to her. She had many close lifelong friends that shared the joy of music and of the gospel with her. Kay passed away on October 27, 2014 at Rosewood Health Center. A Memorial Service will be held at the South Crysler Congregation located at 3100 S. Crysler in Independence, MO 64052 on Thursday, November 6, 2014 at 11:00 am. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Outreach International.
