Gertrude M. Van Tuyl
Gertrude M. Van Tuyl, 93, of Independence, Mo. passed away May 3, 2006 at The Groves Rosewood Care Center. Mrs. Van Tuyl will lie in state at The Groves Community Center on Friday from 9:00 to 10:00 A.M. with services following. Entombment will be in Mound Grove Cemetery Mausoleum. She was born in Decatur, Iowa on February 13, 1913 the second of four children born to Lloyd and Anna (Stringer) Bogue. During her childhood she moved to Atherton, Mo. with her parents. She graduated from William Christman High School in Independence and from Graceland University in Lamoni, Iowa. After teaching grammar school for several years in Peculiar, Missouri she shifted to social work, graduating from the University of Missouri in Kansas City, and later obtained a master�s degree in social work from the University of Kansas. For many years she was employed by Jackson County, specializing in adoption and welfare of infants. She married Wendell M. Van Tuyl in 1958 and spent most of her adult life in Independence with her husband as a devoted member of the Community of Christ Church, College Park Congregation. She was an active volunteer at NICU for Independence Regional Health Center and the Library at the Temple. She was preceded in death by her husband, Wendell on April 14, 2006; by a brother, Delbert E. Bogue and a sister Florence Hughes. She is survived by a brother, Donald J. Bogue of Chicago, Illinois and by several nieces and nephews. Memorial contributions may be made to Outreach International, P.O. Box #210, Independence, Mo. 64051-0210.
