Wendell M. Van Tuyl, 93 of Independence, Mo. died on April 14, 2006 at The Groves Rosewood Care Center. A visitation for Mr. Van Tuyl will be at The Groves Chapel on Tuesday from 9:00 until 10:00 A.M. Services will follow at 10:00 A.M. at The Groves Chapel. Entombment will be in Mound Grove Cemetery Mausoleum. Wendell was born June 28, 1912 in Romero, Texas the eldest of nine children to William D. and Lucie E. (Marston) Van Tuyl. The Van Tuyl family moved to a farm near Bates City, Mo. where he attended schools there and in Oak Grove. They moved near Atherton, Missouri in the late 1920�s and he soon became active in the community. He owned and operated from 1941 to 1976 the Atherton Co-op which was later called the Van Tuyl Store. In his retirement he was a volunteer for Meals on Wheels and the AARP Tax Assistance program. He also enjoyed working on genealogy. Wendell married Gertrude M. Bogue in 1958 and she survives. They enjoyed traveling in their retirement years. He is also survived by two sisters, Anna "Bunny� Matye of Salem, Oregon and Mona Jones of Lee�s Summit, Mo. and by a brother, Harold of Lee�s Summit, Mo. He was predeceased by his parents, three brothers, Roger, Allen and Kenneth and by two sisters, Marian Toms and Esther Resch. Memorial contributions may be made in his memory to Outreach International.
