Jerry Gene Vance, Jr. passed away on May 31, 2021, at the age of 74, at his home in the town of Galt, Missouri. At the place he dearly loved “the Farm “.
Jerry grew up in Independence, Mo. attended Wm. Chrisman High School (1965) and raised his four children and spent many days with all his friends as a volunteer for the historical society and ready to help one and all, he never said no when someone asked. Jerry was an original member of the Court House Exchange round table. Jerry was raised a Master Mason at Shawnee lodge #54 in 1996 and shortly after joined the Northeast Orient of Kansas Scottish Rite then the Ararat Shrine where he enjoyed working with the Provost at the temple and cutting it loose on the dance floor at the temple balls and events. Jerry worked for Jackson County Sheriff’s department reserve unit where he attained the rank of Captain.
Jerry started a construction company in the late 60’s and in the mid 80’s started Vance and Associates, Inc. a pipeline maintenance company. He enjoyed days out on the right of way with small crews and meeting new people in all the rural areas he worked. After a partial retirement he moved to the farm to run fences and work cows with his remarkably close and trusted friend Terry Wynn. Jerry loved his large family more than words could describe. Jerry was proceeded in death by his parents Jerry Gene Vance Sr. and Mary Goodman, Companion Linda Willimon, daughter Kelly Jo Claibourn, and infant granddaughter Katie Jene Vance. He is survived by daughter, Kacy Vance of Independence, Mo.; Son, Jerry G. Vance III and wife Amy of Kingsville, Mo.; daughter, Lindsey Vance and Matt Rodriguez of Independence, Mo.; 18 Grandchildren, Melissa Vance, Alex Whitfield (Jake), Tyler Mullins (Heather), Kyle Clifton (Kimmie), Austin Rodriguez, Haley Rodriguez, Jessi Claibourn, Hannah Claibourn, Case Davis, Trey Rodriguez, Charly Claibourn, Avery Vance, Reagan Vance, Jerry G. Vance IV; 7 Great-grandchildren and 4 sisters and many nieces and nephews.
A visitation to honor Jerry will be held on Tuesday, June 8, 2021, from 12-2:00 p.m., with a funeral service to follow at 2:00 p.m., both at Carson-Speaks Chapel, 1501 W. Lexington Avenue, Independence, Mo, 64052. Jerry will be laid to rest at Mound Grove Cemetery in Independence, Mo. The family would like to invite all to a dinner and celebration of Jerry at Mike Onka Community Hall after the close of the graveside service.
