Alice I. VanDenBurg, 81 Independence, MO passed away Sept. 21, 2007. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 2 pm, Monday, Sept. 24, 2007 at St. Mark’s Catholic Church; interment at St. John’s Catholic Cemetery, Lenexa, KS. Visitation will be 4-7 pm, Sunday at Carson-Speaks Chapel. The family requests contributions to
Catholic Charities Hospice.
Alice was born Jan. 19, 1926 in Kansas City, MO. She was a member of the church, the Heart of America Chapter of 4th Marine Division Association, Daughters of the American Revolution and had worked for the U.S.O during WW II. Alice was a devoted wife and mother whose family was the most important thing to her. She was a good Christian mentor for them. She enjoyed cooking and sewing and her home was always open to family and friends.
Alice was preceded in death by her loving husband, William Anthony VanDenBurg, in 2006, with whom she would have celebrated their 62nd Wedding Anniversary today; daughter Rita Lorene VanDenBurg; granddaughter Katherine “Kathy” Anne (Yeamans) Rager; sisters Mary L. Lightfoot; Dorothy V. Ross; and Henrietta Allen. She is survived by daughters Alice Lynn Yeamans and husband Ken, Cibolo, TX; Mary Louise Johnson and husband Harley, Gardner, KS; Virginia “Jenny” Anne VanDenBurg, Cincinnati, OH; Lora “Lori” Jane Van Becelaere; brother George Daniel Garrett and wife Thora, all of Independence, MO; grandchildren William Edward Yeamans, Cibolo, TX; Daniel Abia Johnson, Independence, MO; Matthew Stephen Johnson; Thomas Joseph Johnson, both of Gardner, KS; James Michael Johnson, Olathe, KS; Joshua David Van Becelaere; Joseph Solomon Van Becelaere, both of Pensicola, FL; Jacob Abraham Van Becelaere; Mary Irene Van Becelaere; Marcus Anthony Van Becelaere; Rachael Elizabeth Van Becelaere, all of Independence, MO; and ten great-grandchildren including Jessica Lynn Yeamans, Lawrence, KS.
