Russell Vanderpool, 83, Kansas City, MO passed away Nov. 26, 2017 at home surrounded by his loved ones. Services will be 10 am, Sat., Dec. 2 at Carson-Speaks Chapel, 1501 W. Lexington Ave., Independence, MO 64052; interment at Mt. Washington Cemetery. Visitation will be 6-8 pm, Friday at the chapel. The family requests contributions to Kindred Hospice.
Russell was born on a farm near Princeton, MO on Oct. 6, 1934 and graduated from Ravanna High School in 1952. He married Mae Sparks of Princeton on Dec. 26, 1952. He finished his work career as a truck driver for Churchill Truck Lines.
Russell was a gifted musician and enjoyed singing with his daughters in church, retirement homes and other venues. He attended New Life Family Church in Kansas City, KS. He was a huge Royals fan and a loyal listener of Denny Matthews. He very much enjoyed his grandchildren.
Russell was preceded in death by his mother and step-father Ruth and Harry Gentry and his only son John Vanderpool. He is survived by his wife of sixty-five years Mae Vanderpool; daughters Ginny Ray and husband Jeff, Kathy Davis and husband Kevin, Carol Hatfield and husband Bruce and Anita Vanderpool; grandchildren Aaron Ray, Jessica Ray, Jennifer Merket, Joshua Hatfield, Gavin Hatfield and Jonathan Davis and six great-grandchildren.
