Wilbert “Clark” VanDyke, 83, of Buckner passed away, Sunday, September 23, 2007 at St. Luke’s East Hospital in Lee’s Summit, MO. Services will be 10:00 a.m., Thursday, September 27, 2007 at the Speaks Buckner Chapel. Burial with military honors will be in the Buckner Hill Cemetery. The family will greet friends from 6 to 8:00 p.m., Wednesday evening at the chapel. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the V.F.W. post in Buckner. Clark was born February 4, 1924 in Independence, MO to Wilbert D. and Viola F. (Clark) VanDyke as has been a lifelong Buckner resident. He had a long career in law enforcement, starting with the Jackson County Sheriffs office, the Kansas City Metro Squad, head of security at Blue Ridge Mall and retiring from the Buckner Police Department. He enjoyed working, traveling, football and was a coin collector. He was a member of the Buckner V.F.W. post and a 50-year member of the Buckner Masonic Lodge. He served proudly in the U.S. Army as a sergeant during WWII. He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Ruth (Covel) VanDyke of the home; 4 daughters, Dorothy Mohler and her husband Phil of Surprise, AZ, Ruth Ann Eaton deceased in 1996, Mary Jane Byler of Kansas City, MO and Julie Buckallew and her husband Ron of Buckner, MO; 7 grandchildren, Lisa Spreckels, Kelly Davidson, Angie Gentile, Larry Wyatt, Machele Wyatt, Sarah Patrick and Justin Buckallew; 14 great grandchildren and 1 great great grandchild.
