Mary Carolyn (Blaylock) Varnell, 70, of Independence, MO passed away September 4, 2019. A visitation will be held from 1-2:00 p.m. followed by a 2:00 p.m. memorial service on Saturday, September 21, at the Speaks Suburban Chapel, Independence, MO. Mary was born to Hoyt and Virginia Blaylock (Carmouche) March 11th, 1949 in Wichita, KS. She graduated from Wichita Southeast High School in 1967, and furthered her education, graduating from Kansas University in 1972 with a Bachelor’s degree in Social Work. She leaves behind as her legacy: her daughter, Christina Daley (Varnell), son-in-law James Daley, and grandson Emmett Daley. She also leaves to cherish her memory one sibling, Stephen Blaylock, sister-in-law Janese Blaylock (Harington), niece Skylar Blaylock, and nephew Chris Blaylock. She is preceded in death by: Hoyt Blaylock (father), Virginia Blaylock (mother), and Brandon Blaylock (nephew). She retired in 2017 in Wichita, KS, and relocated to Independence, MO to live with her daughter, Christina, son-in-law, James, and Grand-dog Zoey. In her earlier years, she was active in Grace Presbyterian Church in Wichita, KS. She was also a part of Campfire Girls. She enjoyed horseback riding, hiking, and visiting with her cousins in Colorado and Michigan. When she was younger, she enjoyed traveling by train to California. She enjoyed traveling throughout her years, as well, with her family. She had a love for animals, doing jigsaw puzzles, scuba diving, painting ceramics, fishing at the lake, watching the Chiefs and the Royals, and enjoying time with her grandson, and taking her Grand-dog out for hotdogs.
