Abraham Duran “Abie” Velasquez, Jr., 90, of Independence, MO passed away Thursday, August 16, 2018. A visitation will be held from 6-8pm on Monday, August 20, 2018 at Speaks Suburban Chapel 18020 E. 39th St, Independence, MO, 64055. Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10am on Tuesday, August 21 at St. Mark’s Catholic Church 3736 S. Lee’s Summit Rd, Independence, MO, 64055. He will be laid to rest at Mount Olivet beside his beloved wife.
Abie was born in Argentine, KS to Abraham, Sr. and Librada (Duran) Velasquez on August 23, 1927. As a young adult, he began working and enlisted in the United States Army. In 1949, he married the love of his life, Connie. Abie loved music, he and Connie would attend many events and dance the night away. He was a very dapper man, never left the house without being sharply dressed. Most of all, Abie adored his grandchildren. He loved his family very much and his light will shine on in their hearts forever.
He is survived by his daughter Rose Davenport and husband Dana of Blue Springs, MO; son Abraham Velasquez III and wife Johnna of Grain Valley, MO; son Christopher Velasquez of Independence, MO; daughter Lisa Jones and husband Patrick of Odessa, MO; brothers Joe Velasquez and wife Rita, and Raymond Velasquez and wife Rosie; sister Maria Consuelo Hernandez and husband Cruz; grandchildren Alec and Evan Velasquez, Dalton and Garrett Talamantez, and Emma, Brady, and Harper Jones; plus many nieces, nephews, cousins and other extended family members and friends.
Abie was preceded in death by his parents, 6 sisters, and the love of his life, Connie.
The family suggests memorial contributions be made to Northcare Hospice House.
