JOHN JOSEPH VERTAKO, JR.
John Vertako, Jr., 69, of Blue Springs, MO, passed away Wednesday, February 1, 2017 at his home. A visitation will be held from 6:00-8:00pm on Thursday, February 9. 2017 at Speaks Suburban Chapel 18020 E. 39th St, Independence, MO, 64055. A memorial service will be held at 10:00am on Friday, February 10, 2017 at Woods Chapel Community of Christ 500 NE Woods Chapel Rd, Lees Summit, MO, 64064.
John was born June 8, 1947 in Mount Pleasant, MI, a son of the late John Joseph and Vera (Wittekind) Vertako. John was a graduate of Mt. Pleasant High School and Graceland University. He proudly served 4 years in the United States Navy on the USS New Jersey and fought in the Vietnam War. On April 24, 1982 he was united in marriage to Diana Mae Clark. She preceded him in death on April 25, 1998. He was a member of the Community of Christ church and was ordained Deacon. He enjoyed spending time with his fiancé, Sunni Teter of Independence, MO as well as his children and grandchildren.
John will be remembered by his son Michael Vertako and wife April of Buckner, MO; daughter Heather Moore and husband Michael of Blue Springs, MO; 5 grandchildren Jonas and Autumn Moore, Hudson and Scarlett Vertako, and one on the way; sisters Jo Bullard of Mt. Pleasant, MI, and Cheryl Denney.
