Lucy Villagran, of Sugar Creek, Missouri, passed away on Friday, October 7th, 2022. She was 96 years old.
Lucy was born on June 25th, 1926, in El Paso, Texas to Juan and Manuela Calderon. She attended school at St. Mary’s High School. Shortly after, Lucy met the love of her life, Catarino Villagran. They were wed on January 29th, 1955, and from their union came one daughter, Cathy.
Lucy was a phenomenal chef who loved to cook meals for her friends and family. She was also a music lover, Mexican and country western being her favorite. In her free time, Lucy enjoyed flower gardening, crocheting, and having fun socializing and crocheting with her girlfriends.
Lucy is preceded in death by her parents, her husband, her brothers; John, Joseph, Frank, and Paul, and sister; Patricia. She is survived by her daughter, Cathy Anderson; her nephew whom she raised as her son, Paul Calderon Jr, sister, Lydia Powell and husband Tom; sister in law, Lupe Calderon and by her many nieces and nephews and extended family and friends.
A visitation will be held on Thursday, October 13, 2022. Rosary will begin at 5:30 and is open to guests, Family will greet guests between the hours of 6-8pm. A mass of Christian burial will take place Friday, October 14, 2022, at 10:30 am at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, 600 N. Liberty St., Independence, MO 64050. Lucy will be laid to rest in Woodlawn Cemetery, Independence, MO, Interment will follow Mass.
