Robert “Bob” L. Vincent, 86, Independence, MO died Aug. 26, 2012. Services will be 11 am, Thur. at Speaks Suburban Chapel, 18020 E. 39th Street, Independence, MO 64055; interment with Full Military Honors at Platte City Cemetery. Visitation will begin at 10 am, before the service. In lieu of flowers, the family requests contributions to the Music Ministry of Fee Fee Baptist Church, 11330 St. Charles Rock Rd., Bridgeton, MO 63044 or the Salvation Army c/o Maywood Baptist Church, 10505 Winner Rd., Independence, MO 64052.
Bob was born in Linden, MO on Aug. 17, 1926 to Lloyd R. Vincent and Lulu M. (Rosenbaugh) Vincent. He attended North Kansas City High School. On June 21, 1944, at the age of 17, he left high school to join the U.S. Navy. He served as a Gunner’s Mate Second Class aboard the USS LST 855. During his military service, he received the Purple Heart, the Asiatic Pacific, American Area, Victory, Philippine Liberation and Good Conduct Medals. He was honorably discharged on July 17, 1947. Because he left high school to serve his country in World War II, Mr. Vincent was awarded an honorary high school diploma by the state of Missouri in 2002.
On June 25, 1948, he was married to Lois Jean Scott. To this union were born three children. Mr. Vincent was a bricklayer for over 40 years and a member of the Bricklayers and Trowel Trades International Union. He was a life member for over 60 years. He worked for several masonry companies in the Kansas City area and worked on many Kansas City area buildings and homes.
Mr. Vincent accepted Jesus Christ as his Savior at the Linden Baptist Church in 1958. At the time of his death, he was a member of the Red Bridge Baptist Church in Kansas City, MO.
Mr. Vincent was preceded in death by his parents, his brother Ned W. Vincent and his beloved wife of over 35 years, Jean. He is survived by his daughters Teresa Garrison and husband Bob of Independence, MO; Beverly Goskie and husband Dennis of High Ridge, MO; son Robert Vincent of Lokichogio, Kenya. He also leaves five grandchildren: Carmen Marshall, Richmond, MO; Robert L. Garrison, Maumelle, AR; Rachel Perea, Belaire, MD; Tabitha McConnell, Hollisdaysburg, PA; Sarah Goskie, High Ridge, MO; and six great-grandchildren: Micah, Addison, Katrina, Lydia, Matthew and Leo.
