Steve Visnich, 90 of Sugar Creek, MO passed away Saturday, January 9, 2016 at his residence. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 3:00 p.m., Wednesday, January 13, 2016 at St. Cyril’s Catholic Church 11231 Chicago St, Sugar Creek, MO 64054 with cremation to follow. There will be a rosary recited at 6:00 p.m., Tuesday evening followed by visitation until 8:00 p.m., at the Carson-Speaks Chapel, 1501 W. Lexington Ave., Independence, MO 64052. Donations may be made in his name to the American Cancer Society. Steve was born October 25, 1925 in Sugar Creek, MO to Nick and Manda (Suknaic) Visnich and has been a lifelong area resident graduating from William Chrisman High School in 1947. He proudly served in the U.S. Navy during WWII from 1943-46 and later the U.S. Army from 1947-49. He had worked in maintenance for Standard Oil Company in Sugar Creek for 33 years from 1949 until he retired in 1982. He enjoyed fishing and spending time with his family. He was a longtime member of St. Cyril’s Catholic Church, the VFW in Sugar Creek and the retiree’s of Standard Oil Company. He is survived by; 2 daughters, Mary Kay Merling and husband Jeff of Independence, MO and Claudia Visnich-Spradlin and husband Steve of Kansas City, MO; 4 sons, Steve Visnich and wife Dorothy of Independence, MO, John Visnich and wife Jean of Bella Vista, AR, James Visnich and wife Nancy and Tom Visnich and wife Rosie all of Sugar Creek, MO; 19 grandchildren, 45 great grandchildren and 4 great great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife Maxine in 2011, a son, Kenneth Visnich in 1971, his parents, a sister, Mary Ham and a brother, Joe Visnich.
