Alvin A. von Seggern, 90, Independence, MO passed away Jan. 12, 2018. Memorial services will be 7 pm, Tuesday, Jan. 16 at Speaks Suburban Chapel, 18020 E. 39th St., Independence, MO 64055; cremation. Kindly omit flowers. The family requests contributions to the World War II Museum, 945 Magazine St, New Orleans, LA 70130. Alvin was born June 20, 1927 in Windside, NE. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army. He was an auto mechanic for the U.S. Postal Service and retired from there in the late 1980’s. Previously he worked as a supervisor at the GM Fairfax plant. He loved square dancing and was a member of the Flutter Wheels Square Dance Club in Kansas City, KS. He was a member of American Legion Post #21. He had been a member of Bethel Lutheran Church and Grace Lutheran Church where he served as an elder. He and his wife were foster parents where they had fourteen foster children over the years. They also owned an antique store in Lowry City, MO for seven years. Alvin also enjoyed woodworking. Alvin was preceded in death by his wife of sixty-eight years Leona von Seggern, and brothers Leon von Seggern and Richard von Seggern. He is survived by son Alvin Arthur von Seggern II and wife Teri, Farley, MO; daughters Vicki “Pat” Wendt and husband Charlie, Kansas City, KS; Colleen Walker, North Kansas City, MO; favorite niece Debbie McGhee and husband Donald, Blue Springs, MO; great-nephew Greg McGhee and wife Christine, Independence, MO; ten grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
