James A. Votipka, 69, Independence, MO passed away Nov. 20, 2006. Services will be 10 am, Sat., Nov. 25, 2006 at Bethel Baptist Church, 2406 S. 291 Hwy, Independence; cremation. Visitation will be 6-8 pm, Friday at Speaks Suburban Chapel. In lieu of flowers, the family requests contributions to the Bethel Baptist Church Building Fund.
Jim was born Oct. 15, 1937 in Claycomo, MO. He was a truck driver for Graves Truck Lines for 15 years before becoming President of Teamsters Local #498 - a position he also held for 15 years. Jim loved sports and was a baseball coach for 3 & 2 Baseball for many years. He was a fan of the Chiefs and the Royals. He was a member of the church for 28 years and served as a Deacon.
Jim is survived by his wife of 48 years Judith Votipka, of the home; daughter Lisa Hawkins and husband Larry, Independence; sons Jay Votipka and wife Sonja, Lenexa, KS; Timothy Votipka and wife Natalee, Pleasant Hill, MO; sister Linda Lorber and husband Walter, Rochester, MN; brother Charles Votipka and wife Shirley, Kansas City, MO; sister Romaine Vaughn, Fristoe, MO; sister-in-law Frances Votipka, Sandersville, GA; ten grand daughters: Amy, Erin, Jordan, Alexandria, Lindsay, Madison, Mackenzie, Haylee, Shelby and Bailey.
