George E. Wagener, 73, Independence, MO passed away July 16, 2017. A memorial service will begin at 10 am, Sat., July 22 at Sycamore Hills Baptist Church, 15200 East 39th Street Independence, MO 64055. Visitation will begin at 9 am before the service at church. Private committal will take place later at Woodlawn Cemetery. In lieu of flowers the family requests contributions to the Sycamore Hills Baptist Church or Ronald McDonald House Charities, 2502 Cherry St., Kansas City, MO 64108.
George was born March 6, 1944 in Independence, MO and graduated from William Chrisman High School before earning his B.S. in Business Management from UMKC. He was an Eagle Scout and a member of the Tribe of Mic-O-Say. He was a U.S. Navy veteran and worked for IBM for thirty-five years until his retirement in 2006. Over the years he and his wife, Linda, lived in California, Tennessee, Georgia and Florida in addition to Independence. He enjoyed reading, World War II history and World War II airplanes and was a folk music fan.
George was preceded in death by sister Susan Kennicutt. He is survived by his wife of fifty-four years Linda Wagener, of the home; son Willard Todd Wagener; daughter Amy Fitzner and husband Paul, all of Independence, MO; sister Jeannette Lightfoot and husband Donnie, Polk, MO; brother Roy Wagener and wife Pat, Grain Valley, MO; five grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
